Today, at 5emotionsalgarve, we are going to talk about dolphins.
But not just any dolphin, let's talk about the biggest dolphin in the world!

Every year we hear reports of them passing along the Algarve coast. And every year, on the boat trips we do at 5emotionsalgarve, we are lucky enough to be able to observe these dolphins a few times. Their black backs, white eye patches, very prominent dorsal fins. We are of course talking about Orcas (Orcinus orca). Called killer whales in some parts of the world, they are neither whales nor killers. They are just very large dolphins, voracious hunters and highly specialized predators.
When they pass by, there is always an uproar on the VHF radio of all the boats, including the 5emotionsalgarve ship, Kyros. We also communicate with research projects based in Cadiz, that observe these orcas every summer. After all, we are talking about the population of Iberian Orcas, which the researchers of these projects know by heart! Just by seeing the videos on 5emotionsalgarve's social networks, scientists soon begin to report on group names, animal names, social relationships and normal behaviours.
We have already been visited by several different groups of the Iberian Orcas population here in the waters of Portimão, and we show you some photos of these beautyful moments!
