Dolphin watching in the Algarve
Do you know what differentiates the companies that promote this experience?
We tell you everything!
Dolphin watching in the Algarve has been around for a few decades now, and every year, there are more and more companies dedicated to this touristic activity. What sets these companies apart is the quality of the service they offer. Dolphin Watching in Portugal is regulated by the Law 9/2006, of 6 January, which stipulates good practices in whale and dolphin watching. Unfortunately, not all companies comply with this regulation and this can be felt in the dolphins’ behavior. When the sightings are made incorrectly, the animals demonstrate this displeasure very quickly and very accurately. But when the observation is made with respect and care, ah, what a marvel and what a show these animals provide us! This is how we prefer to work at 5emotionsalgarve, with respect for the environment and the animals, on all our boat trips. After all, this is their world!
Some of the rules that we must comply with when observing dolphins, during our boat trips, include a careful and thoughtful approach to the group of animals, without ever crossing their course. Dolphins cannot feel cornered, so we always have to be to the back and side of the group. We can't make sudden changes in course, or accelerate with the animals. We must not make too much noise, we cannot touch or feed the animals. It is important to understand that these are wild animals, which are not used to humans.
Another important rule is to write down some information about the animals, such as what species we are observing, what they are doing and how many animals are in the group. This information is important to understand how the dolphin population is in Portugal. This record is something you can regularly observe our team do during our boat trips at 5emotionsalgarve.
Below we have photographs of some of these wonderful encounters in the Algarve, mainly in the Portimão area, from where we operate, and in the area of the beach and caves of Benagil, where the splendid cliffs of this place often serve as a backdrop for the sighting of these magnificent animals.
